Hello Landels Families!

Our first Science Night will be held at Landels in the MUR next week on Thursday, November 21st, from 6 - 8 p.m.  Come join in on the hands-on fun!  See you there!

Landels Program Usage

Thanks for attending our principal’s coffee this week.  As discussed, the following are the programs most frequently used at Landels.  Each program includes a description.  Programs highlighted in blue are found in Clever which houses several of our Landels programs.  Feel free to ask questions, if needed.

Eureka Math - This is our district K-8 math program that was chosen by a committee of parents, teachers and administrators.

Benchmark Advanced - This is our district K-5 ELA program that was chosen by a committee of parents, teachers and administrators.

iReady - This program is used for school and at-home use for grades K-5.  Each student has 20 lessons in their queue for both math and ELA.  This program is supplemental to our math and ELA curriculum.  This program is most beneficial as it is personalized for each student based on a diagnostic assessment given three times a year.  Your child can work on this program at home for about 15 minutes a day.  You should use a paper and pencil to work out problems or organize thoughts, if needed.

Zearn (lower and upper grades) and Khan Academy (upper grades) - This program is used for school and at-home use.  These are aligned with our math Eureka curriculum.  Your child uses either one of these to either preview or postview a lesson that was or will be taught in the classroom.  This program can be used at home or in school.  You can view a specific lesson in Eureka by searching a module and lesson for your child’s grade level.  This is helpful if you need to learn the new math strategies that are being used for conceptual understanding.

Learning A-Z (Raz Kids) - This program is used for school and at-home use.  There are several leveled books that your child can either read or listen to and answer comprehension questions.  If you need more information regarding which levels to use for your child, please inquire with your teacher.

Edutyping - This program is used for school and at-home use.  This helps your child practice correct typing procedures for more efficient use of the keyboard.

Assessment and Report Cards

You will be receiving your child's report card on Friday, November 15th. It will be in an envelope in the backpack. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, as always, please arrange to talk with the teacher so the teacher can give you more details. If you need interpretation, please let us know in the office and we will gladly help you.

The next iReady math and reading diagnostic assessment will be given in the month of December.  These data results, along with several other measures of your child's success, are used to guide our instruction and meet the needs of each child.

Toolbox - Social/Emotional Tools

It’s here!  In our main office, there is ToolBox information as well as Tool Box lessons to use at home with the family or just one on one.  There are also templates so you can make your own tool visuals for home.  Please come and peruse and take what you need.  We can make more copies, if needed.

If you try a lesson, I would love to hear some feedback regarding how it went.  Please feel free to email me or catch me around campus.  I will also ask during our Monday morning assemblies if anyone wants to share.

Heidi Galassi

Principal
