Landels News
Dear Landels Families,
It’s been an amazing year! With just 8 days left in the school year, I want to take this opportunity to highlight some of our successes and look back on all our students have accomplished. Please enjoy this short video.
iReady
The results from the D3 Reading and Math assessments show significant improvement from the beginning of the year (see attached). I am incredibly proud of the remarkable growth and perseverance demonstrated by our students. I also want to express my deep appreciation for the exceptional staff at our school, whose unwavering dedication and passion for student success have not gone unnoticed. Together, we have achieved great things!
LEAP
Our LEAP program was brought back to life this year, offering students the opportunity to participate in new and exciting experiences. Activities included volleyball, tennis, gardening, chess, art and many more. A huge thanks to Tushar Moorti for his leadership and to the many parents that volunteered their time to enrich our students’ lives.
Volunteers
We also gave new life to our volunteer program, bringing more adults on campus to support academics and school events and activities. Our community is stronger and our hearts are fuller thanks to the efforts of our wonderful volunteers.
Community Building
Our PTA and Ms. Bea led the charge in bringing more events to Landels this year. On-campus events included 2 Family Science Nights, Multicultural Festival, Movie Night, Game Night, 2 Book Fairs, Walk-a-Thon, Winter Holiday Fair and several ice cream parties. These events would not have been possible without your support and generosity. The PTA was able to raise $50k+ from the walk-a-thon alone, which provided funding for Playworks, several assemblies and field trips, much-needed classroom and school supplies, and 2 free books from the Book Fair to every student at Landels.
We will continue to build on our successes and reflect on our areas of growth as we start planning for 22-23. Thank you for all your support!

Principal’s Coffee
There will be a principal’s coffee tomorrow at 8:30am in the staff room. I will share our progress on site plan goals and answer any questions related to the end of year events or next school year.
Chromebook Returns
Students in 2nd grade, 4th grade, and any student not returning to the district next year need to turn in the Chromebook assigned to them by the last day of school. You may begin returning chromebooks to your teacher immediately. All other students may keep their Chromebooks over the summer.

* Lost & Found – Is your child missing a sweater/jacket, lunch box, water bottle or umbrella? Our lost and found cart is overflowing with many items. Please take a moment after school or on the weekend to check out the lost & found cart located beside Room 6. Any leftover items will be donated 6.9.23.

View and comment on MVWSD’s Local Control Accountability Plan draft
The District is finalizing its draft of the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). This is the District’s three-year plan that corresponds with the first three years of the District’s new Strategic Plan 2027. These documents are the blueprints that guide all of the District’s work for the benefit of our students.
Stakeholders are welcome to comment on the draft LCAP plan through May 24. You may read presentations and supporting materials at https://www.mvwsd.org/lcap and make comments. Stakeholders may also attend the public hearing during the Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, June 1. Agenda and time are found on https://www.mvwsd.org/trustees.
MVWSD+ Afterschool Applications for 2023-24 School Year
Free MVWSD+ Afterschool childcare will be available for qualifying students next school year. To learn more about the program, including whether your child may qualify, go to www.mvwsd.org/plus. Applications will be sent to qualifying students’ families via email over the next few weeks. Please respond promptly to ensure a spot for your child starting on the first day of the new school year! Look Around, Look Within: Mental Health Awareness Month
Nature has a profound impact on our mental health. Spending time outdoors can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression. This week, make it a priority to spend some time outdoors. Taking a walk in the park, gardening, hiking in the woods are great ways to connect with nature, recharge, feel peace, and gain perspective!

MVEF Volunteers needed for Summer and Back-to-School Activities
MVEF is seeking additional volunteers from every MVWSD school and in every neighborhood. Volunteering with MVEF is a great way to learn more about Public School Funding in California and to meet families from every neighborhood in MVWSD! MVEF volunteers work collaboratively with PTAs, school communities, and neighborhood to ensure that information about our mission and impact reaches everyone in the right way. Health and Wellness Parenting Tip: Youth Depression
All children feel sad or moody at times. But when a sad or bad mood lasts for weeks or longer — and when there are other changes in how a child acts — it could be a sign of depression. If you think your child is depressed, talk with them. Let them know you want to understand what they are going through. Listen if they want to speak.

Here are some signs that your child may have Depression:
1. Negative outlook. Children who feel depressed may be hard on themselves or on others. They might focus on failures and setbacks. It may be hard for them to see the good parts of things, or the good parts of themselves.
2. Low energy, effort, interest, enjoyment. Your child may lose interest in things they used to enjoy. They may not seem to care. They may put less effort into schoolwork or tasks at home. Things seem to take too much effort. Nothing seems fun or enjoyable.
3. Doing poorly at school. When a child feels depressed, schoolwork can seem harder. They may not complete their work, show effort, or study as much for tests. Their grades may drop.
4. Pulling away from friends and family. Your child may spend more time alone, less time with friends, or seem distant.
Keep in mind that these are NOT ALL the signs of Depression. There are many more signs that a parent can find in their child. Identifying the signs of Depression is the first step to understanding our child. If your child is thinking or talking of suicide, please visit the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline website, call 1-800-273-8255, or call or text 988.

Mountain View Summer Community Kick-off
Join the City of Mountain View and local organizations for a Summer Community Kick-off on Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m at Rengstorff Park. Come out for a day of fun and learn about community resources to help you stay healthy, happy and housed! Family activities will include Library Storytime (10:30 a.m.), Pop-up Art Class, Arts & Crafts, Raffle, Shaved Ice, and Tacos.
MV Public Library: Summer Reading Program & Upcoming Events
Registration is now open for the Mountain View Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, which runs from June 1-July 31, 2023. Read, learn and earn rewards! Register the whole family for this free program here.
