Landels News
Dear Landels Families,
We’ve put a lot of time and energy into creating systems that will benefit students' social, emotional, and academic development. Our new recess and lunch schedule provides students with more play time while maintaining a safe environment. Our small group reading block has also started this week. Additional staff is allocated to grades 1-5 during this time so that we can provide more targeted reading instruction to meet each student’s needs. I’m proud of what we have accomplished in these first few weeks - more to come!
Back-to-School Night
A reminder that we’ve made a change to the BTSN schedule - all teachers will be available for two back-to-back sessions in order to allow all families the opportunity to see their child's teacher. The new schedule is as follows:
· 6:00pm - 6:25pm - K-5 Teacher Presentations Session 1
· 6:30pm - 6:55pm - K-5 Teacher Presentations Session 2
· 7:00pm - Message from Principal Dolmans and the PTA on the blacktop
We will not have any child supervision for back-to-school night so please make other arrangements for child care.
Landels Enrichment Activity Program (LEAP)
Interested in getting involved? Do you have a skill or information that students might enjoy learning about? LEAP is an after-school enrichment program available to all students and led by parent volunteers. Come to the LEAP information meeting on Friday, August 26th to learn more. Please check in at the office and bring your ID, proof of vaccination and a mask.
School Site Council Elections
Landels’ School Site Council is composed of five parents and five staff members. The School Site Council helps develop goals and actions for Landels’ School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA or site plan in short). They must also approve the site plan before it goes to the board. More information about SSC can be found on the district site. Nominations for School Site Council were solicited from the community on 8/23. Please take some time to vote for School Site Council members using the following form. New nominees will serve a 2 year term while existing members will serve a 1 year term. In order to limit individuals to 1 vote, you will need to sign in via google although your email address will not be collected. You may vote for as many individuals as you like. You can also vote in person if you wish. Voting will end on 8/30 @ 11:59pm. Elected members will be announced in the Landels Latest. Our next SSC meeting is on 9/12 @ 3:15pm (register here). We will review iReady and CAASPP data and discuss goals and action steps for 2022-23 school year.
English Learner Parent Members for ELAC 2022-2023
We need 3 parents to serve on our English Language Advisory Committee for the 22-23 school year. If you are interested in becoming a member, please complete this Self-Nomination Google Form by September 2nd.
What is an ELAC?
Every public K-12 school in California that has more than 21 English Learner students must have an ELAC. The ELAC consists of parents and teachers that work together to support English Learner students with their education.
What is ELAC's purpose?
ELAC's purpose is to advise the principal, school staff, and the School Site Council on programs and services for English Learners. They also work with the school to provide information to the parents and give a voice to the English Learner community so that these families' questions and concerns can be carried back to the principal, school staff, and School Site Council.
If you have any questions, please contact Principal Pieter Dolmans at [email protected] or SCEF Bea Claas at [email protected].
Thank you!

Gift Card Donation
As you may know, there are several families in our district that need help to meet some basic needs. The district is providing meals every day. But some families need more support for providing food, clothes and shoes for their kids. There is a critical need for gift cards for these families. If you are able, please consider donating a Safeway or Target gift card to families in our own district. Thanks so much for your help! Let’s show these families how strong and supportive our Landels community really is!
Please bring the gift cards to the office. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Bea, School and Community Engagement Facilitator – SCEF- at [email protected].
MVWSD News
School meals are free, but fill out the EzSchool Meals application to help your school
MVWSD will continue to provide free meals to all students as part of California’s universal meal program. Breakfast and lunches are available daily.
We ask you to please Apply at EzSchool Meals to help MVWSD receive additional funding to support students who are in need, and may help your family.
This Free and Reduced Price Meals benefit is not limited to meals only. If your child is eligible for free and/or reduced-price meals, your family could get medical benefits, housing benefits, utilities benefits and more.
Students who qualify for free and/or reduced-price meals may be eligible for P-EBT cards. The more applications your school gathers at the start of each school year, the more additional funding it can receive for all kinds of programs that help children at your school.
If you are currently out of work, you may qualify and help your school, regardless of your financial situation. Apply at https://secure.ezmealapp.com/ or call your school office.
Please Support Our Students!
MVEF raises money to provide all MVWSD students with an educational experience beyond what is possible with public funding. Help us fund programming for your child and every child in the district! We hope you saw the MVEF brochure (which doubles as a donation envelope) or watched the video during Back to School. Please see the website at mvef.org for more information and to donate online using ACH (from your bank account) or credit card. You can sign up to pay in monthly installments. Please consider joining our team of volunteers. Email us with any questions at [email protected]. Thank you for your support!
