Landels News
Dear Landels Families,
Congratulations to Landels students for making it 2/3s of the way through the school year! Tomorrow, 2/14, is the last day of the trimester, which means it is also a minimum day (12:10pm dismissal). There is no school next week (Feb 17-21) for winter break.
Attendance
Our yearly goal for attendance is to have 97% of students present and on time every day. We are currently at 94.5%, which means that on average, 22 students are absent each day. Showing up to school every day is critical for students’ well-being, engagement and learning success. We need your help to improve our attendance. Here’s how you can do your part:
1. Illness: Students are able to remain on campus unless they have a fever or are suffering from a recognized contagious or infectious disease. If a student is absent due to illness, they can return as long as they have been fever free for 24 hours and their symptoms are improving.
2. Vacation: Please only schedule trips/vacation during scheduled break periods within the school year. While we do have options for independent study, this should only be used in rare circumstances and is not a substitute for the learning experience in the classroom.
3. Appointments: Please make every effort to schedule appointments on school breaks or after school. If your child does have an appointment during school hours, please have them come to school before the appointment and get signed out early, or come back after the appointment.
4. Tardies: Your morning routine should ensure that your child arrives on time every day, ideally no later than 8:10am. If a child or parent wakes up late, still bring the child to school. Better late than never!
Park Restroom
We’re currently constructing a new restroom building near the field. This standalone facility will be maintained by the City and will provide a convenient option for public use after school hours.
Construction will continue during winter break next week. On the evening of Thursday, Feb. 20 between approximately 3-6 pm a wide load delivery truck with the modular restroom building will arrive at Landels Elementary through the back gate off of Mercy St. to access the construction area. On the morning of Friday, Feb. 21, a construction crane will arrive and enter through the same gate on Mercy St. to set the restroom building within the construction fencing area.
Please avoid the area during this time. No major disruptions/noise is expected. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to improve our school/community spaces. For updates, see https://www.mvwsd.org/construction
Thank you!
Pieter Dolmans

Better Together: February
Black History Month provides MVWSD with a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the rich contributions and achievements of African Americans while fostering a deeper sense of community among our students, staff, and families. By learning about influential Black leaders, innovators, and community helpers - from local civil rights activists to Black educators, doctors, and entrepreneurs who shaped our neighborhood - students develop a broader understanding of how diverse voices and experiences have strengthened our community. Last week, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution honoring February as Black History Month. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
