Landels News
Dear Landels Families,
Tomorrow is the last day of school…what a year it has been! We are asking all students to wear blue and white in celebration of our last day together before summer!
I am so thankful to you, the staff, and most of all, the students for all their hard work and perseverance. Students (and staff) have shown tremendous growth and I am so proud of all that they have accomplished! I want to take this opportunity to share some of our successes this year.
Academics
We continued providing targeted reading intervention and explicit language instruction (~200 minutes per week) for all our struggling readers and English language learners while providing extension for students at or above grade level. These efforts yielded amazing results. I want to express my deep appreciation for the exceptional staff (and volunteers) at our school, whose unwavering dedication and passion for student success have not gone unnoticed. Together, we have achieved great things! Next year, we’ll be adding math intervention to our instructional systems, ensuring all students are able to strengthen their number fluency, understand grade level content, or apply concepts to new situations.
Volunteers
Parents, community members, and MTC tutors remain essential partners in supporting academics, social-emotional learning, and school events. Their dedication strengthens our community and enriches the lives of our students. We sincerely appreciate the time and effort our incredible volunteers have given to Landels.
Community Building
Our PTA and Ms. Bea led the charge in bringing events to Landels this year. Take a look at all the ways your generous donations have helped to support our school community! The PTA was able to raise $60k+ from the walk-a-thon alone. We couldn’t do this important work without you!
We will continue to build on our successes and reflect on our areas of growth as we plan for 25-26. Thank you for all your support!

A Message from Ms. Walsh
Dear Students and Families,
As the school year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to share some news. I'll be saying goodbye to Landels Elementary School as I step into a new chapter as a School Counselor at Bubb Elementary School.
Being your school counselor has been one of the greatest honors. I have had the privilege of witnessing so much growth in your students.
To my students: Thank you for showing up with your full hearts. You've reminded me daily of the strength it takes to be honest, vulnerable, and resilient. I hope you always remember that your feelings matter, your voice matters, you matter.
To the families: Thank you for your trust, your honesty, and the grace you have offered in this partnership. I have seen how deeply you love your children and how hard you work to lift them up. It's been a gift to support and collaborate with you.
I am working closely with the counselor who will take my place to ensure the transition is smooth and your students are well supported when they return to school. They will be available when the new school year starts.
This isn't just a goodbye, it's a sincere thank you. My time at Landels will stay with me always.
Welcome to Carolyn Chang
As we bid farewell to Ms. Walsh, we are excited to welcome Ms. Carolyn to join Landels Elementary as our school counselor for the 2025-2026 school year. She has been the school counselor at Crittenden Middle School for the past two years. We look forward to working with her during the upcoming school year.
A Message from Ms. Carolyn
Dear Landels Families,
As this year wraps up and the new school year begins to unfold, I’m so grateful to introduce myself to this beautiful community. I’m Carolyn Chang, and I’m honored to join Landels Elementary as your new school counselor.
This role is deeply meaningful to me. School counseling is more than a job- it’s about presence, about holding space, about helping children feel safe in who they are while growing into who they’re becoming. My work is rooted in relationships and truly listening- to what each student needs.
I come to Landels with a heart full of care for students’ emotional well-being. Ready to support the whole child. Here’s to a year of growth, grace, and gentle beginnings.
With care,
Carolyn Chang
Summer Learning Menu
Summer is just around the corner, which means lots of outdoor play, family time, and daily academic practice! We know from brain research and our own lived experiences that skills that are not practiced, or periodically reviewed, can be forgotten. Students have worked so hard this year to learn and grow. We want to make sure they maintain these skills over the summer! We know that convincing students to do daily academic practice may be tricky, so we’re helping with an optional Summer Learning Menu.
· Students can log in to IXL, Zearn Math, or Khan Academy lessons.
· Students can read. Daily reading is the most effective way to become a better reader. We read by reading the words, reading the pictures, retelling familiar texts, and listening to others read. We also read a variety of text types: picture books, novels, newspapers, magazines, blogs, graphic novels, comic books, etc.
· Students can complete Math Fluency Activities. Students can play a math fluency card game with a deck of cards, practice with some flashcards, or complete a math learning game on i-Ready.
· Students can complete STEAM challenges. Students can complete these challenges on their own, with a friend, or with their families!
Please see “How to access summer learning on home devices” here. Students in grades K-2 will receive their printed Clever badge (QR Code) from their teacher by Friday, May 30th.
In addition to the summer learning menu, we will be sending home a reading bingo card. ALL students that participate and return their reading bingo card will receive a prize at the beginning of the school year. Thanks for supporting your children with maintaining their skills over the summer!
Office Reminders:
Medicine
If your child has medicine in the nurse’s office, please make sure to pick it up from the office before school is out.

This is a reminder to return your library books to the school before the end of the year.
Lost and Found
The lost and found rack is full, please take a look to see if any items belong to your child. The last day to claim any items is June 5th. Anything left after dismissal will be donated.
