Message from our principal:

Hello Landels Families!

Our students are well on their way to showing their growth through the iReady assessment.  They are using their patience tool, breathing tool, and courage tool in order to do their best.  A couple of reminders:

  • Students should have a quiet space ready to do their best.
  • Students are able to use paper and pencil to take notes or use for thinking.
  • Students should wear headphones and keep their video on.
  • Students should be on mute during the virtual assessment to maintain a quiet environment for all students.
  • Students should use their district assigned chromebook.
  • Students should complete the assessment on their own with no assistance.  We need accurate data for planning instruction.

Results will be available January 4th in your Parent Portal in PowerSchool.

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences present a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, strengths, and needs, and work with your teacher to help your child have a successful academic experience. Conference week is scheduled for January 11-15, 2021. Every day that week is a minimum day.  You will have an individual meeting with your child’s teacher.  We also ask that your child be present for part of the conference.  It is important that your child be a part of his or her educational process.  When a child feels included and a part of the discussion, academic achievement increases along with confidence in his or her abilities.

You will receive an email before break from your child’s teacher for days and times to sign up for conferences.

Prior to conferences, parents can access their child’s iReady Diagnostic 2 report when we return from the Holiday Break on January 5, 2021. Steps for accessing PowerSchool Parent Portal i-Ready Reports are here

When thinking about your child’s conference, you could consider:

  • What successes have you noticed your child has experienced this year?
  • What concerns or issues is your child experiencing with school?
  • Do you have any specific questions or topics you’d like to discuss?

From our Safety Team

Once upon a time there was a little old pride team and a little old Landels school. The little old pride team was very lonely so they came up with an idea to create a padlet with Gingerbread cookie recipes so that the little old Landels school could make and show off their very own gingerbread cookie. The little old pride team put this idea in the oven and waited. Scents of creativity filled the air till popped out, this announcement!

Hello Landels Lions, this Christmas, the pride team has created a padlet where there are recipes on how to make gingerbread cookies so that you can make your very own gingerbread cookie and take a picture of it for all of Landels to see! Run run as fast as you can because you can post your gingerbread cookies starting tomorrow and ending next Friday. I’ll hope to see you there!

Hello Landels Lions! The Pride Team knows that your kitchens are filled with the delicious smells of all of the wonderful foods you are creating for Winter, and we wanted to create a place where our entire school can share our favorite recipes- from ones that have been in our families for years to delicious ones we'd like to try! Join us by posting your recipes on the Landels Pride Team Family Cookbook! The padlet opens tomorrow and you can post on it all the way through the break! Use it to find a new recipe and post a picture of your creations!

Art supply Distribution #1

Your children continue to have the opportunity to attend art lessons provided by Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) as part of their school day through a partnership between the MVWSD, the Mountain View Education Foundation (MVEF), and CSMA.

To support these lessons, your child will be provided with art supplies over the course of the school year. Some general supplies came at the beginning of the school year like crayons, erasers, pencils and glue sticks.  The next set of supplies, a sketchbook and construction paper, is ready for distribution.

Our school will be distributing supplies in the first couple of weeks after school starts back up in January after break.  You will receive more information from your teacher regarding a day and time.  Also, please join us in thanking MVEF for their generous donation of these supplies for our elementary students.

MVEF Foundation

Did you know that our weekly art, music, and Living Classroom garden lessons are made possible because of generous parent support each year to MVEF (Mountain View Educational Foundation)? Our MVEF also provides STEAM professional development and other programs for our students!

Double your Donation with the MVEF December Challenge Grant. Throughout December, every dollar donated will be matched dollar for dollar up to $47,000, through the MVEF December Challenge Grant.  The December Challenge Grant has been made possible by generous MVEF donors who are challenging you to join them in supporting MVEF. Donate today to get your donation matched by this challenge!

https://www.mvef.org/donate

If your company has a matching gift program, you can triple your impact by donating this month!

Each and every year we rely on generous donors like you to help MVEF fund programming and experiences at every school in the district, ensuring that your child and every child has an inspiring, well-rounded education.

Every dollar donated makes a difference and allows the district-wide programs to be funded which is especially important now, during remote learning.  It takes donations of every size for MVEF to reach their annual goal of $800,000.

These are the programs and activities MVEF is supporting during remote learning because of donors like you:

· Music and Art: CSMA weekly online art and music classes for TK-5th, instrument purchase and repair, and art supply kits for all elementary schools

· Science:
o   Living Classroom environmental education for elementary and middle school.

o   Environmental Programs taught interactively for the 4th and 5th grades

o   Middle school science supplies for teachers

o   TechSmart coding programs from 3rd grade through middle school (through a grant from Tides Foundation)

o   Training for Elementary STEAM teachers with Discovery Education

· Additional Middle School funding to support the Elective Wheel classes, redesigned for distance learning!

o   Padlet licenses for teachers

o   Online apps (Smart Music, Flat.io, and SoundTrap) for Music Appreciation classes, Band, Choir, and Orchestra

o   Music books

o   Art Supplies

o   Robotics

o   Tech Smart coding (through a grant from Tides Foundation)

Even through distance learning, your donations to MVEF continue to fund art, music, and science for every student at every school!

Thank you in advance for your support.

Better Together: Together we can appreciate our abilities

In December, we are celebrating Abilities Awareness Month. To honor our commitments in moving towards equity and inclusion, help us bring the voices of people with diverse abilities into your classroom or homes, and create a learning environment that rejects ableism. From lessons on art, activism and physical disabilities to education about new developments in Universal Design, these resources will help you and your children embrace diverse abilities and understand the injustices people with disabilities often encounter. Together, we can appreciate our abilities and celebrate our common humanity. See the attached graphics or view them on https://www.mvwsd.org/bettertogethermvwsd
