Principal’s Message:

Dear Landels Families,

Thank you to the PTA and all of the Landels families for your generosity during staff appreciation week! The food, messages and gifts were so thoughtful - I know I speak for all the staff when I say that we are incredibly fortunate to be working at a school with such a caring community that recognizes the role each staff member plays in educating the whole child. I’m very proud to be a Landels Lion!

Spirit Day

In honor of staff appreciation week, we are having a “dress like your teacher” day this Friday, May 6th. I look forward to seeing all the creative outfits!

Testing

Thank you for all your support with testing. Today was the last day of state testing for our 3rd and 4th graders, unless they still need to finish one or more assessments. Our 5th graders will take their science assessment next week. All students (K-5) will take their end of year iReady assessments on May 16th (ELA) and 18th (Math).

School Site Council Elections

We are beginning to recruit for next year’s School Site Council. Landels’ School Site Council is composed of five parents and five staff members.  The School Site Council helps develop goals and actions for Landels’ School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA or site plan in short). They must also approve the site plan before it goes to the board. More information about SSC can be found here. Nominations for School Site Council were solicited from the community on 4/20 and again on 4/27. Please take some time to vote for School Site Council members using the following form. In order to limit individuals to 1 vote, you will need to sign in via google although your email address will not be collected. You can also vote in person if you wish. Voting will end on 5/17 @ 11:59pm. Elected members will be announced in the Landels Latest. Our next SSC meeting is on 5/23 @ 3:00pm (register here). We will review progress on our goals and the efficacy of our action steps.

Thank you!

Pieter Dolmans

Next week, we are celebrating Multicultural Week to honor our diverse community! We have created a community Padlet where families can share their favorite family stories, read a book, tell a traditional cultural tale, share a recipe, or showcase an aspect of your culture (such as traditional dress, jewelry, food, etc.). On Tuesday, May 10, classrooms will be exploring this Padlet during class to learn more about each other and our amazing community. Please add your submissions by Monday evening so we can approve the posts and share them on Tuesday. If you need assistance using Padlet, ask your child or come to the front office. Thank you so much for your support! We are excited to see what you share and can't wait to celebrate with you on Thursday night during Multicultural Night from 4-7PM.

Access our Community Padlet here!

On Wednesday 5/11 from 12:10 - 12:55, the Student Events and Clubs Committee will be running its first ever event!

* Students in any grade can bring something from their culture to school that day and share it at tables under the solar panels during lunch from 12:10-12:55. Adults will monitor the tables so that participants can sit and eat during lunchtime. Other students will come by to find out more about different cultures.

* If a student would like to participate, please fill out this form or tell Mrs Poor so that we can make sure to have enough table space!  Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1TgrvihVNrb-yMQ3U8rfVpF03GJfr8zNktEZ1gcyOY-8/edit

* You can bring a sign to put on the table, with your object, or make one that day!

* Students should make sure that they have permission to bring their item in, and that it is not breakable!

Spirit Wear!

PTA is hosting another in person gear/spirit wear sale on Friday, May 6th at the front of Landels during pickup time (1:30 - 3:30).

We will have our Square App to accept card payments. You may also place an order through our online store and pick it up in person if you don't want to wait for delivery through your student's classroom. Please indicate on your order that you will pick up during the in-person sale.

There will be a PTA table where parents can sign up and/or ask any questions. Parents who sign up for additional information and/or join the PTA will be entered into a raffle to win some free Landels gear!

If you cannot make the in person sale you can still purchase Landels Gear or make a donation through our online store. When you place your order, please indicate your child’s name, classroom #, and teacher’s name on your order to ensure a smooth delivery to your child at school.
