Message from our principal:

Hello Landels Families!

November and the end of the trimester are fast approaching.  The trimester ends on Friday, November 6th, and will be a minimum day ending at 11:35 a.m.  Our students are currently being assessed from now until the end of the trimester regarding reading and writing.  Each child will be assessed on their reading and comprehension as well as writing.  This will be via computer similar to the iReady assessment except shorter in time and length.  Here are a few reminders of ways you can support your child:

·       Resist to assist.  We need real data to inform our future instruction.

·       Make sure your child has a distraction-free area to take the assessment.  The reading and comprehension assessment is online and will be recording your child reading.  The program picks up background noise and we do not want this to interfere with your child’s score.

·       Encourage your child to stay steady, focused, and do his/her best.

I would like to thank all of you for supporting us at school by being on time with your ZOOM sessions.  It sets the tone for the classroom and there are less interruptions during instruction.  We know the timing can be difficult and would like to support you in any way.  Please contact us for ideas and/or strategies to use for a timely entrance into ZOOM.  : )

Stay Safe!  Wash your hands!  Wash and wear your masks!  See you on ZOOM!

Together We Are a Better MVWSD: Special edition: ELECTION!

Mountain View Whisman School District embraces its role in establishing its commitment to equity in our district. As part of our "Together We Are a Better MVWSD" series, here is a special edition on the Nov. 3 election.

Participating in elections is one of the key freedoms of American life. Many people in countries around the world do not have the same freedom, nor did many Americans in centuries past. No matter what you believe or whom you support, it is important to exercise your rights. We celebrate the upcoming election cycle by publishing materials for teachers and parents that promote civic engagement amongst students and give resources to parents about how to secure their participation in this year's election. Both the links and QR codes will take you directly to the recommended resources.

Living Classroom continues to maintain the school gardens for when garden-based outdoor learning can return to MVWSD, making education come alive and deepening students' connection with nature. Living Classroom lessons empower the next generation by growing environmental champions, inquisitive learners, and healthy eaters.  There are over 200 lessons planned for the fall in our schools.
