Hello Landels Families!

Report Cards will be available for parents via your PowerSchool portal on Friday, Nov. 20th. At our Principal's Coffee tomorrow morning we will discuss the report card format and answer any questions you have about distance learning in relation to the grades. We will also review the steps for parents to see in Google Classroom and SeeSaw how their child is doing each week.

Also, bring your most recent iReady results.  We will support you in reading the results and how best to utilize these results at home with your child.

Rhythm and Moves Wednesday voluntary on-campus physical education classes

At the end of the day Wednesday, November 11th, sign-ups for our on campus voluntary Rhythm and Moves Wednesday program closed.  We will be providing sessions for each grade level as well as two session times for 4th and 5th grade students due to the fact that our 5th graders have art or music already scheduled on Wednesdays so as to not limit their opportunity.  Additionally, you will notice the schedule does not allow for some grade levels to either check in or check out.  This will not be figured into attendance as we know you will be attending PE class on campus.  All teachers will be alerted to students who are included in on-campus PE on Wednesdays.

Most importantly, due to students being on campus for PE, this is a reminder that our school campus is closed during school hours on a daily basis.  We will be enforcing this rule to keep our students safe while on campus.  We have signs posted as reminders, as well.  Please feel free to spread the word and ask all to not use our campus during the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  Thank you for your support and understanding with this.

Powering Down your Chromebooks

Reminder to please power down your child's chromebooks daily. Powering down Chromebooks daily or every other day helps the system update and run smoother. Please remember to close all tabs then shut down.

Reporting Absences

During distance learning all absences must be reported. Please email the secretary, Barbara Dolan at [email protected] or call the attendance voicemail line at 650-526-3520, press #2 if your child is absent.  Please include your child’s name, room number or teacher, reason for the absence and the date of the absence.

Together We Are a Better MVWSD: November: We acknowledge our history

It's already November and the holiday season is upon us. Traditionally, elementary school students learn about a peaceful feast held in 1621 by the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians, who helped teach them to survive in a perilous new world. To promote both critical thinking and the disruption of falsehoods favoring a colonialist-dominant narrative, we must engage with primary sources and counternarratives to grapple with the mythologies of the first Thanksgiving. This month, the BetterTogether calendar encourages all of us to acknowledge our shared history and its truths, starting with the contributions of those Indigenous to North America. To see more, click on the attached flyer (Spanish included) or visit https://www.mvwsd.org/bettertogetherMVWSD.

Distance Learning Toolkit: Increasing Focus Through a Sensory Lens

Thursday December 3, 7-8:30 PM

LAMV PTA Council and SELPA 1 CAC present this talk with Lisa Kaplan Shanaan, MS OTR/L TMHP

How do you stay engaged? How do you calm down when excited, or pep up when you are zoned out? You may know your own body and the tricks that work for you, but children are still working this out. It is especially difficult to learn self-regulation when involved in distance learning on screens for hours a day. Come learn from Lisa Kaplan Shaanan, an occupational therapist and trainer, who has been working with children birth thru 18 years old for more than 30 years. She will recommend tools and techniques useful to help all children discover their best ways to self-regulate and really learn and stay engaged during the Zoom school day.
