Message from our principal:

Hello Landels Families!

I hope you had a relaxing, recharging break last week.  It’s always nice to have time to reflect and recharge the batteries.  We have just under three weeks until winter break and have plenty planned up until then.  First, we have our second iReady diagnostic assessment for both reading and math starting next week.  Here are some important tips for taking the assessment:

·       This assessment is the only assessment that our students take during the school year where they will not be able to answer all the questions correctly.  The test is adaptive and gives questions to students until the student can no longer answer the question correctly.  The assessment then adapts to questions that are more accessible.  This feels strange to our students as they aren’t used to this concept.  We will be explaining this to our students.  Please reiterate this idea to your child(ren) before and during the assessment, when needed.

·       Resist assisting with the assessment.  We need accurate data for each child to plan for instruction.  Assistance can and should be provided for tech support.  If you need further tech support please email or call 650-527-3252

·       Headphones should be worn during the assessment.  This makes the assessment environment quieter for everyone.

·       The video needs to be on but the microphone should be off.  Again, this makes the assessment environment quieter for everyone.

·       Screens will be monitored by teachers using Securly.  If your child is on another site besides the iReady site, you and your child will be notified via the chat in Securly.

·       Talk to your child(ren) about their first iReady results and their individual goal for the second iReady assessment.  The following is an example:

Safety Team Announcements

Starting on December 7 we are having Covid Awareness week. The pride team will release a padlet on which they have posted videos and you can too! The topics are fun things like Mask Monday or Find a Use Friday. We already have lots of videos to give you ideas. Students can add videos on any day they choose as long as it’s on topic. Some great ideas are how to properly wear a mask or how to effectively wash hands. We hope you will be posting right away!

Here is the link for our Covid-19 Awareness Week Info.

Distance Learning Toolkit: Increasing Focus Through a Sensory Lens

Thursday December 3, 7-8:30 PM

LAMV PTA Council and SELPA 1 CAC present this talk with Lisa Kaplan Shanaan, MS OTR/L TMHP

How do you stay engaged? How do you calm down when excited, or pep up when you are zoned out? You may know your own body and the tricks that work for you, but children are still working this out. It is especially difficult to learn self-regulation when involved in distance learning on screens for hours a day. Come learn from Lisa Kaplan Shaanan, an occupational therapist and trainer, who has been working with children birth thru 18 years old for more than 30 years. She will recommend tools and techniques useful to help all children discover their best ways to self-regulate and really learn and stay engaged during the Zoom school day.
