Message from our principal:

Hello Landels Families!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! We appreciate your continued support and patience as we Returned to Learn. This week has been amazing, and I can’t express how exciting it is to see our students at school learning, playing, and enjoying recess and lunchtime in a safe manner. We have been fine-tuning some of the processes on a daily basis, and we are very fortunate to have an amazing classified and certificated staff who are willing to troubleshoot and adapt to last-minute changes.

We also need your continued support with our drop-off procedures. In order to expedite drop-off and not cause a backup in the parking lot or on Dana street, please minimize the time by staying in your car and having everything ready to go.

As we transition our third through fifth graders back to school next week Monday, do know that if you want your child to bike or walk to school, you need to send an email to his/her teacher authorizing them to do this. This is very important for us to ensure the safety of our students. Help us remind your child about the importance of wearing a mask at all times, watching their distance, and washing their hands.

Landels families join me for tomorrow’s Career Speaker Series from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Upcoming Parenting Workshop

Drs. Eduardo Bunge and Alayna Park at Palo Alto University would like to support students and parents at Landels Elementary School. Starting next month, they will be offering four biweekly synchronous classes on tools for improving your child’s behavior, increasing your child’s compliance with your requests, and strengthening your relationship with your child. They will also provide information on how you can access a free, online program with more techniques for making parents' typical day in the home easier. Join the next class on Tuesday, April 6, from 8:30am-9:30am PST: https://paloaltou.zoom.us/j/93362960411.

Save the Date: April 20

Here is a great parenting tip for increasing desired behaviors at home.

Modeling refers to teaching by example. Your child will learn by observing and seeing the behavior of others. To model desired behaviors:

For example, you could model being kind to others by greeting your neighbors or offering to help other family members around the home. Make sure to keep praising the behaviors that you want to see (“Great job helping your sibling with their homework”).

These tips came directly from the free, online Everyday Parenting program created by parenting expert, Dr. Kazdin.

Student meals

If your student is returning to campus, you might be wondering about lunch. Due to federal funding, MVWSD is able to provide free breakfast, snacks and lunches to students on campus daily. Breakfast and snacks are cold. Lunches will be hot. Students will be able to pick up lunches at their classrooms. Menus and nutritional analysis are posted at https://www.mvwsd.org/nutrition. A count of those taking school lunch will be taken at the beginning of the school day. Students may bring their own self-contained lunches, if desired. MVWSD continues to provide free grab and go meals at each school (Stevenson and Theuerkauf are combined) during lunchtime for students who continue in distance learning and for young children in the community.

Women’s History Month

In the month of March, we are celebrating Women’s History. BetterTogether recognizes the people, movements, and ideas that challenge expectations and gender stereotypes that negatively affect us all. From women’s suffrage to the gender equality movements of modern day, it has become clear that when we all fight gender inequality, we all win. Celebrate this month by having meaningful conversations with your students, your children, and your fellow s(heroes). In addition to the infographic, this month we will also be highlighting amazing women from our organization and learning about the s(heroes) that have inspired their own commitment to gender equality.

For a closer look at this month’s infographic, click on the attached flyers or visit https://www.mvwsd.org/bettertogetherMVWSD.
