Principal’s Message:

Hello Landels Families!

I can’t believe we’re just 1 week away from the start of school. We are so excited to welcome students back into the classroom!

The pick-up/drop-off process will not change this year. We will continue using our staggered schedule (see below).  All students should enter campus through the main entrance on Dana St. or through the back entrance off of Mercy St. (see image).  Remember that parents need to complete the health screener (OKtoReopen) before students arrive at school. All students and staff are required to wear a mask while on campus. For health and safety reasons, no parents are allowed on campus while students are present. We are asking all families to complete this informational survey so we have the most up-to-date information on file. This information will help us keep our students safe.

As mentioned in my welcome letter, students will engage in SEL activities using the Toolbox Project for the first week of school. As such, students do not need any school supplies just yet. You will have access to your child’s class placement in your PowerSchool Parent Portal account on Monday, 8/9 @ 8am. Teachers will be sending a welcome letter on Tuesday, 8/10 with any supplies that might be needed - these are suggestions and not required.

What students should bring to school:

-2 face masks labeled with their name (Office will provide masks to students if s/he comes to campus without one)

-Reusable water bottle (full with water from home). Students can use the classroom sink to refill water bottles

-Snacks and lunch are provided free of cost. Students may bring their own snacks and lunch if they like.

Below is the schedule for the first week of school:

Wednesday, 8/11 First day of school (minimum day) - Dismissal is at 12:10pm

Thursday, 8/12 (minimum day) - Dismissal is at 12:10pm

Friday, 8/13 (full day)

We are very excited to welcome all of our students back to Landels on August 11.  To make the busy morning go more smoothly on the first day of school, we wanted to provide you with some information and suggestions.

·      We encourage families to walk, bike or carpool when possible.  Parking is limited.

·      You may drop off in front of the school or at the back gate off of Mercy St.  Staff members will be available to assist students to their classrooms.

·      Adults should stay inside their vehicle.  Please have all materials (lunch, backpacks, masks) ready to go for easy drop-off.

·      Kindergarten – Teachers will open their parking lot doors on 8/11, 8/12, 8/13. Please remain in your car at the curb.  Students will be walked to their classrooms by a staff member.  For pick-up safety, please have a sign with your child’s name and room number in the window.  We will escort your student to the car.

Parking Lot Safety

Please do not use cell phones when dropping off or picking up your child.

Please do not use the bus lane to drop off students.

Do not park your car at the apartments across the street from Landels or along Dana Street in front of the school.  You may park in the neighborhood behind Landels – on Mercy St., Frances Way or Eldora Drive.

Please do not leave your car unattended during drop-off or pick-up, unless your car is in a parking space.

Please be SAFE, RESPECTFUL, and RESPONSIBLE!

OKtoReopen Health Screener

The screener needs to be completed first thing in the morning BEFORE children come on campus. Since it is so important for everyone's safety on campus.

Within the OK to reopen platform, parents can adjust the settings to receive text or email only. Additionally, questions can be answered for more than one child within the same window, using the drop-down menu at the top right. It is not necessary to download an OKtoReopen app. Please click here for Pro Tips.

Reporting an Absence

School starts at 8:15am and attendance will be taken during class check-in.  If your child is absent, please call the attendance line at 650-526-3520 x. 2 by 8:30am or email [email protected]. If we do not know the reason for the absence, your child will be marked unexcused.  If you are late or you have a dentist or doctor’s appointment during class time, please call Mrs. Dolan.

Childcare

MVWSD partners with providers Right at School and YMCA to provide on-campus, fee-based childcare. Registration for these programs is happening now. Please click here for information on sessions, cost and registration.

Class Posting

How to Find Out Your Child’s Teacher (PowerSchool)

In order to meet social distancing requirements for large events, there will be no in-person class posting events on campuses. Class placement information will be available to parents online beginning Monday, August 9 at 8 a.m. Your child’s class placement for the 2021-22 school year will be available for viewing on the PowerSchool Parent Portal: https://ps.mvwsd.org/public/ under the My Schedule selection.  If you have difficulty signing in to PowerSchool, please call your office.

How to Access PowerSchool

1. Click on https://ps.mvwsd.org/public/ and sign in.

If you already have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, you may use your Username and Password to sign in. To recover your password, you may use the "Forgot Username or Password" link.

If you don’t have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, please contact your school office.

2. Click on your student’s name on the top menu bar (not necessary if you only have one student).

3. Click on “My Schedule” on the left to view student placement.

Masking

All students and staff are required to wear masks while on campus. This includes both indoor and outdoor areas. Our staff has masks for students who forget them.  Mask breaks will be provided on an as needed basis. Please ensure your child knows how to properly wear a face mask. For more information on facemasks, click here to watch this video.

Handwashing

Handwashing is one of the best ways to protect germs from entering our bodies. Students will be expected to wash hands before and after eating, after using the restroom, and when sharing common materials. For information on correctly washing hands, please click here to watch a video on effective handwashing protocols. In cases where handwashing is not available, students can use hand sanitizer.  Please practice washing hands with your child prior to the start of school.

Free Snack and Lunch

School meals are free.  MVWSD will continue to provide free meals to all students in the 2021-22 school year. Breakfast and lunches are available daily.  Menus and nutritional analysis can be found on https://www.mvwsd.org/nutrition. There will be a vegetarian option each day. Gluten free lunches are not available. Students may bring their own self-contained lunches if desired.

Apply at EzSchool Meals to help MVWSD receive additional funding to support students who are in need, and may help your family.

This Free and Reduced Price Meals benefit is not limited to meals only. If your child is eligible for free and/or reduced-price meals, your family could get medical benefits, housing benefits, utilities benefits and more. Students who qualify for free and/or reduced-price meals may be eligible for P-EBT cards. The more applications your school gathers at the start of each school year, the more additional funding it can receive for all kinds of programs that help children at your school. If you are currently out of work, you may qualify and help your school, regardless of your financial situation. Apply at https://secure.ezmealapp.com/.

If you need help, our office staff is available to help you.  Please email Ms. Bea at [email protected]

Medication Forms

If your child requires medication to be kept at school, please pick up medication release forms from the office during our first week of school and return ASAP (we cannot administer any medication without the form).  Please note that all medication, even over the counter ones, need a medication form signed by your doctor.
