Principal’s Message:
Hello Landels Families!
It’s been another great week of learning here at Landels! We have finished up iReady testing for 1st-5th grade and will now be using that data to help inform instruction, especially as it relates to our Response to Instruction (RTI) block. Our STEAM classes are in full swing - students are setting up their STEAM notebooks for the year and learning how to create scientific sketches. Music classes will begin next week for 5th grade. Summer iReady lessons and reading:
We are gathering data on our summer incentives and will be recognizing students that completed iReady lessons and summer reading. More to come!
Lunch:
Out of an abundance of caution, we have made some adjustments to the recess/lunch schedule in order to accommodate a distance of 6+ feet between all students. The benefits are that students can sit near their friends for extended periods of time (15+ minutes) while they finish eating. The one drawback is that some students now need to sit on the floor. While some students prefer sitting on the floor, students may bring a towel if that would help make the seating more comfortable.
Monday Assemblies:
We will begin holding schoolwide assemblies via Zoom on Monday mornings as a way to spotlight students/classes and provide general information on school procedures and upcoming events. We will also recognize some students that have received a ROAR for following the Landels Way (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible) or for using their Toolbox Tools. The goal of our Monday assemblies is to build community and promote inclusivity.

- We also have another principal’s coffee scheduled for 9/13 @ 8:30am (register here).
- Our first SSC meeting will be on 9/16 @ 3pm (register here).

Landels is looking for any parents that are interested in joining either our School Site Council (SSC) or English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) for the 2021-2022 school year. If you are interested in self-nominating for SSC or ELAC, please read the information below and fill out the self-nomination form.
School Site Council (SSC) Meetings and Parent Elections
Landels’ School Site Council is composed of five parents and five staff members. The School Site Council helps develop goals and actions for Landels’ school site plan. If you are interested in running to be a member of our SSC, please complete this Self-Nomination Google Form. More information about SSC can be found here.
English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) Meetings and Parent Elections
Every public K-12 school in California that has more than 21 English Learner students must have an ELAC. The ELAC consists of parents and teachers that work together to support English Learner students with their education. ELAC's purpose is to advise the principal, school staff, and the School Site Council on programs and services for English Learners. They also work with the school to provide information to the parents and give a voice to the English Learner community so that these families' questions and concerns can be carried back to the principal, school staff, and School Site Council.

OktoReopen Health Screener
The screener needs to be completed first thing in the morning BEFORE children come on campus. Since it is so important for everyone's safety on campus.
Within the OK to reopen platform, parents can adjust the settings to receive text or email only. Additionally, questions can be answered for more than one child within the same window, using the drop-down menu at the top right. i-Ready Scores (1st Grade – 5th Grade)
This is just a quick reminder that families can access their student’s i-Ready Reading and Mathematics score through their Powerschool Parent Portal starting August 30th, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. Reports are available on the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://ps.mvwsd.org/public/ under “Parent Reports” for each of your students. Apply at EzSchool Meals to help MVWSD receive additional funding to support students who are in need, and may help your family. This Free and Reduced Price Meals benefit is not limited to meals only. If your child is eligible for free and/or reduced-price meals, your family could get medical benefits, housing benefits, utilities benefits and more. Students who qualify for free and/or reduced-price meals may be eligible for P-EBT cards. The more applications your school gathers at the start of each school year, the more additional funding it can receive for all kinds of programs that help children at your school. Special Board Meeting Preview: August 26

Air Quality:
The 2021 wildfire season is upon us; a situation that we are all too familiar with, unfortunately. This year with COVID, the impact of poor air quality is even greater. While we understand that there are multiple online tools to measure air quality (Breezo, Purple Air, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, etc.), MVWSD uses the EPA’s AQI monitoring tools at AirNow.gov. District seeking Parcel Tax Oversight Committee (PTOC) member
MVWSD is seeking a Parcel Tax Oversight Committee (PTOC) member. Selected representatives monitor, provide oversight, and ensure accountability to the funds received by the District, including an annual report to the Board regarding the actual uses of such funds. The PTOC is composed of representatives from the local community, including the business community, District homeowners, parents or guardians of a student in the District, or the community at large.

The Special Education Local Plan Area 1 Community Advisory Committee (SELPA1CAC) is made up of parent volunteers, special education staff, and community members and offers resources available to help families of students with learning challenges. Welcome back from the Landels PTA!
The Landels PTA is excited to have our community back together again on campus for the 2021-2022 school year. We look forward to exploring new ways to build community despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, starting at our first association meeting on Wednesday September 8 at 6pm.
What is the PTA and what does it do?
We are an enthusiastic non-profit group of teachers, staff, parents/guardians, Landels alumni, extended family, and community members who strive to build up and support each and every pillar of our school community. We help organize room parents, host community building events, and support our classrooms with classroom supplies, field trips, movie nights, ice cream parties, assemblies, and more. We kicked off the year by welcoming back our teachers and staff with coffee, snacks, and lunch.
