Principal’s Message:

Dear Landels Families,

Landels, along with other schools in the district, has seen a drastic decline in the number of positive pools (zero in the last two weeks). In response to this trend, MVWSD has revised their mask protocols. Please watch the following video to see how this impacts Landels. Students watched the video with their class and participated in conversations around communicating their needs and respecting individuals’ choices when it comes to masking. I encourage all families to continue the conversation at home.

Many staff and students are choosing not to mask outside and just as many are choosing to continue masking. Transitions can be challenging but our students are showing an incredible amount of resilience and empathy as we enter this new phase - truly inspiring! It’s also been wonderful to see more smiling faces outside.

Science Night OR After-school Enrichment

The district’s revised protocols allow us to hold events on campus. We are currently planning a Science Night for Thursday, April 21st from 6-7pm. Students and families that attend will receive and build a Kiwi Kit together. Alternatively, if you are not able to attend or if you do not feel comfortable attending an in-person event, students can participate in after-school enrichment on April 21st or May 5th from 12:30-1:30pm. They would receive and build the same Kiwi Kit with their STEAM teachers, Ms. Poor and Ms. Son.

Please complete the survey and select either the Science Night for your family OR the After-school Enrichment for your child.

More information will be sent out as we get closer to the event. Looking forward to connecting with all of you. Thank you!

Pieter Dolmans

March Better Together Infographic

When women succeed, we all succeed. The same can be said for any of our community members who have felt the sting of marginalization or oppression. On International Women’s Day, let us appreciate all of the women and girls in our lives and the many intersecting identities that make them who they are. Let us never stop fighting for a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. After all, we are #BetterTogether. Please see the graphics attached to this newsletter, or visit https://www.mvwsd.org/bettertogetherMVWSD.

Health and Wellness Parenting Tip: Belly Breathing

Our mood is influenced by physical sensations in our body. When we feel stressed, we tend to take quick and shallow breaths. By taking slow and deep breaths, we can signal our body to relax.

Watch this video to learn more about how belly breathing can help your child (or you) feel more relaxed.

To belly breathe:

1.     Choose a comfortable position, such as sitting on a chair or laying on your back.

2.     Place one hand on your belly.

3.     Take a deep breath in through your nose while you count to four. As you breathe in, your belly should rise.

4.     Hold your breath while you count to five.

5.     Breathe out through your mouth while you count to six. As you breathe out, your belly should flatten.

You may need to repeat these steps for 5-10 minutes before you start to feel relaxed. By practicing these steps, you can learn to relax after stressful situations.
