Principal’s Message

Hello Landels Families,

This week in morning meeting, we recognized Autism Awareness Month. Many students at Landels are neurodiverse, which simply means that these individuals may experience and interact with the world in a different way. We celebrate diversity and strive to create a safe, welcoming school environment for all students - one wherein students feel valued and cared for.

Please remember that we do not have school next week because Mountain View Whisman School District is on spring break from April 11-15. I hope the break provides opportunities to connect with loved ones.

COVID Test Kits

Please note, parents and staff members will once again receive a free COVID test kit from schools. Student test kits were sent home yesterday (Wednesday). Please remember to administer the free at-home COVID test kit to your child on April 17, before returning to school on April 18. If your child has symptoms or a positive result, they must stay home. Please see https://www.mvwsd.org/returntolearn for detailed COVID information. Have a safe and restful time away.

Masks - Snack/Lunch

Masks are strongly recommended while students are at school and they are required in the MUR when students pick up food. Please encourage your child to always carry a mask with them. We are noticing a lot of unnecessary mask waste due to students forgetting their masks.

Parking Lot Etiquette

There have been several reports of students running through the parking lot or cars not following the traffic rules. Please remember to slow down, be aware of your surroundings, and be patient with each other while dropping off and picking up students. Cars should pull around to the student drop-off/pick-up area OR parents can park and escort children to and from the car. Talk to your children about waiting patiently on the sidewalk. Let’s keep everyone safe!

Bike Safety

The city’s Safe Routes to School program will be partnering with Landels to provide information for safely walking and rolling to school. All 1st-5th grade students will receive the information in their PE classes on April 26th and April 27th.

Take care and have a restful break!

Pieter Dolmans

Fertilizing

The Parks Division will be fertilizing the turf play fields at Landels during the week of April 11th through April 15th (Spring Break). There will be minimal MOWING during this time. To assist in administering this program we are requesting that all field activities be temporarily discontinued while this work is in progress. As with most fertilizer, the turf areas will be irrigated immediately following the application of fertilizer. At the conclusion of this work, hard surface areas will be blown off. We’re sorry for any inconvenience, but this work is essential to maintain the turf at Landels.

Water Bottles

Please send your child to school with a water bottle daily.  Because of our COVID precautions, we do not allow students to drink directly from our water fountains. They can refill their water bottles, but we do not have extras to hand out. Please write your child’s name on the bottle so it can be returned if misplaced.

Spring Break April 11-15

Mountain View Whisman School District is on spring break April 11-15.

Parents and staff members will once again be receiving free COVID test kits from schools this week. Please remember to administer the free at-home COVID test kit to your child on April 17, before returning to school on April 18. If your child has symptoms or a positive result, he/she must stay home. Please see https://www.mvwsd.org/returntolearn for detailed COVID information. Have a safe and restful time away.

COVID masking

Both outdoor and indoor masking is strongly recommended (but no longer required) for students and staff in our schools and offices. However, there are times that masks are still very highly recommended.

Lunch lines are open!

Multi-use rooms opened for food distribution this week as a result of loosened COVID restrictions. Students will wear masks as they pick up food indoors. Outdoor eating will continue. Please click here for a video about how the new food lines work: https://vimeo.com/694953946. Thanks in advance for your patience as we adjust to new procedures.
