Landels News
Dear Landels Families,
I am so grateful for all of the well wishes I received from the Landels community upon the arrival of Mila June Dolmans! I am so thankful for this time with my family and for the incredible staff who help the school run smoothly in my absence. I look forward to returning to Landels next week.
Community
For the past 2 months, Landels staff and students have focused on building community in the classroom and at school. We work hard to ensure every student feels welcome and included. Students who demonstrate community-building traits may receive a ROAR and may also get recognized during Thursday morning meetings. Here’s a short story about how Our School is a Family.
Parking Lot Etiquette
There have been several reports of individuals being unsafe in the parking lot. Please remember to follow the parking lot rules - slow down, be aware of your surroundings, and be patient with each other while dropping off and picking up students. Cars should pull around to the student drop-off/pick-up area OR parents can park and escort children to and from the car. Talk to your children about waiting patiently on the sidewalk. Let’s keep everyone safe!
Thank you!
Pieter Dolmans
Short-Term Independent Studies
If you are planning on scheduling family vacations, please make every effort to schedule around our instructional calendar. You can also find minimum days outside our regularly scheduled early release Thursdays for scheduling appointments for your scholar. If your plans include your child missing 3-15 days of school, please notify the front office to discuss a short-term independent studies contract to minimize the impact of missed school days.
Gift Card Donation
As you may know, there are several families in our district that need help to meet some basic needs. The district is providing meals every day. But some families need more support for providing food, clothes and shoes for their children. There is a critical need for gift cards for these families. If you are able, please consider donating to Safeway, Target or Costco gift card to families in our own district. Thanks so much for your help! Let's show these families how strong and supportive our Landels community really is!
Please bring the gift cards to the office. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Bea, School and Community Engagement Facilitator – SCEF- at [email protected] .
Reporting an Absence
School starts at 8:15am and attendance will be taken during class check-in. If your child is absent, please call the attendance line at 650-526-3520 x 2 by 8:30am or email [email protected]. If we do not know the reason for the absence, your child will be marked unexcused. If you are late or you have a dentist or doctor’s appointment during class time, please call the school office.
Message from the Landels Green Team:
As the Landels Green Team, we do our best to help. Climate change is a pressing issue, and we, as a community, must stop it! Here at Landels, we do our part. At lunch, the Green Team picks up trash around the eating area. Then, we help younger students sort trash. At our weekly meetings, we discuss lesser-known environ-mental problems. We go around the school and teach others about these problems and how they can help. Landels Green Team is excited to share their first edition of the student made Econews Newsletter.

Share your ideas about social-emotional learning (SEL) for our students
Parents and staff members, please take a moment to complete a quick survey about social emotional learning by Sept. 30. Your thoughts will provide valuable insights into students' emotional well-being and development. Your feedback will help MVWSD and the SEL Curriculum Committee as they work to select curriculum and activities for students to better support students' social and emotional needs. Additionally, your ideas will be included in plans for how school counselors can support students. Click here for the SEL stakeholder survey .
Join us on our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) journey
We are seeking applicants to join the MVWSD 2024-2025 SEL Curriculum Adoption Committee, where our focus will be Social Emotional Learning curriculum adoption. If you are interested in being a part of this moment in our SEL journey, please complete this application by September 27, 2024. Even if you might be unsure about participation, we encourage you to apply. By applying to the committee you will learn more about the commitment that will be asked of participants.
The SEL Curriculum Adoption Committee is seeking participants from all members of our District community, however it must be primarily composed of MVWSD teachers. We will meet up to 11 times this school year between October and April, including 3 Saturdays. The objective of this committee is to examine stakeholder input, SEL curriculum options, engage in a curriculum pilot, and make recommendation(s) to the Board of Trustees for adoption. Applying neither commits you, nor guarantees a seat on the committee. Following your application, you will be provided with next steps. Apply here: http://mvw.sd/SELCommittee

If you have experience, knowledge, or interest, please complete an application at: http://mvw.sd/health by October 11. If you have any questions, please contact Brian White, Health & Wellness Coordinator at [email protected].
