Landels News
Dear Landels Families,
I am proud to share that we have surpassed the PTA fundraising goal of $60k for field trips, assemblies, Playworks, teacher support and so much more. Thank you for your generous contributions and participation in the Walkathon.
Halloween Parade
I look forward to seeing students and families at our optional Halloween Parade on October 31st at 8:20am (weather permitting). Students who would like to participate may come to school dressed in their costume. Please ensure costumes are appropriate for school. If you would like to attend, you can observe the parade from the designated area on the map. We will have an alternative space for any students that do not wish to participate.
Trick-or-Treating Safety
If you plan on trick-or-treating with your child, here are some tips to keep everyone safe:
· Wear bright colors or add reflective tape to costumes and bags to be more visible to drivers.
· Carry a flashlight and use glow sticks or bracelets to light your way.
· Walk (don’t run) on sidewalks and stick to well-lit areas.
· Plan your route in advance, especially for older kids who may be trick-or-treating without an adult.
· Have an adult inspect all candy at home. Throw away anything opened, unsealed, or not in its original wrapper.
· Go as a group, especially for younger kids.
· Stay hydrated and eat a meal before you go out so you're not tempted to eat candy as soon as you get it.
· Be polite. Say "Trick-or-treat" and "Thank you".
· Be cautious around animals, especially those you don't know.
Library Happenings
It’s been a fun month in the Landels Library! Students have been celebrating National Cookbook Month, learning how to use a paper dictionary, and voting for their favorite staff-decorated Storybook Pumpkin. The library is open every morning at 8:00 a.m., and families are welcome to stop by with their students to explore and enjoy the space together before school.
Thank you!
Pieter Dolmans
Orenda Program Study
With the support of staff members and parents, our schools make incredible progress with students. At the same time, we know we aren’t where we need to be for all students as evidenced by the achievement gaps that persist in some student subgroups. We can and will do better, together.
To help us, we’re inviting an objective outside perspective to shine a light on what’s working best and where we can improve. Our goal is simple: ensure our resources are focused on the programs that most improve student outcomes.
Our school will partner with Orenda Education to take a close look at what’s helping our students succeed and where we can improve. Their work will begin soon and wrap up by the end of December, giving us timely data to guide next year’s budget, staffing, and program decisions.
I wanted to let you know that on November 5th, Orenda team members will visit our school to observe classrooms, student work and speak with staff. Staff members will also be invited to complete an anonymous survey. The information collected is anonymous and confidential, and not specific to staff members or individual students. It is truly all about our students and their learning so that we can build on our successes.
Thank you for your support of our school. Together, we will continue to grow, learn, and make our schools even stronger for every student.

College Week at Landels!
This week we are celebrating College Week! Students will get a chance to complete a College Bingo and learn about their teachers’ college journeys. We’ll also hear from some of our parents as they share their paths from high school to college and into their current careers.
Take some time to talk with your child about your own learning experiences.
It's never too early to start talking about college!

5:00-6:30pm
Landels MUR
Please join us for our Math Festival at Landels Elementary School. This is an opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the joy of math.
The mission of Julia Robinson Math Festival (jrmf.org) is to help all students build confidence, joy, and a positive identity around math. Students and their families will explore a variety of fun, hands-on, math puzzles and games.
Before you crunch numbers, crunch some tacos! The taco truck starts serving at 4:30 p.m. (food for purchase).
Winter Clothes Donations
It's finally time to get the warm clothes out of the closet! If you find items that are too small for your kids, or you just don't want them anymore, please bring them to the Landels office and we will find them a good home. Baby and adult clothes are also needed.
Clean and gently used clothes only, please. Nothing with stains or permanent damage. We will donate these items to families in need in our community. We will be collecting donations until Friday, November 14, 2025. Thank you!
Check the Lost & Found
Our Lost & Found rack by room 6 is overflowing with jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, and more! If your child is missing something, please stop by and take a look. We will donate all clothing that is left behind by 10.31.25.

MVWSD News
Drafts available: Single Plans for Student Achievement
Each year, our schools create Single Plans for Student Achievement (SPSAs or “site plans”) that guide the work for the coming year. These plans help us prioritize programs and strategies that will best serve our students. In the fall, elected parent representatives from School Site Councils and English Language Advisory Committees work with principals and school staff members to create a draft that is reviewed and approved by the MVWSD Board of Trustees. Parents and staff members may give feedback through Nov. 4 to their principal and elected parent representatives to SSC and ELAC. You may review the draft plans here.
Smart Ways to Give to MVEF: Stock Donations & Corporate Matching
Have you ever considered donating stock to MVEF? It’s one of the most tax-smart ways to give — and it directly supports art, music, science, athletics, and more for every MVWSD student.
· Full tax deduction for the fair market value of the stock
No capital gains tax — you skip the taxes you’d owe if you sold it yourself
· Bigger impact for you and our students
Many in our community trade stock or receive RSUs from local companies, and donating appreciated shares directly to MVEF is simple and efficient. Find stock transfer instructions here.
Your employer might also help you double your impact!
Many local companies offer matching gifts or employee giving days in October–December, multiplying the effect of your contribution. Corporate matches and grants are a major part of MVEF’s annual funding, helping us reach our $1.2M goal for 2025–26. Check if your company matches donations to MVEF here.
Thank you for helping MVEF enrich every student’s learning experience!
