Principal’s Message:
Dear Landels Families,
Last week, we lost one of our MVWSD students to a tragic bike accident. My heart goes out to the family and friends of this student. If your child has been impacted by this incident in some way and needs support, please reach out to me.
MVWSD has updated our website with information about safe walking and biking routes to school. (Click Here). The link has the preferred biking routes to avoid major streets, Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety guide, and other tips for getting to school safely. If your child bikes, skateboards, scooters or walks, please review with them the preferred routes and other safety measures. If your child bikes, skateboards or uses a scooter, please make sure they wear a helmet. If you need a helmet, please reach out to the school so we can get you one.
I am working with the city’s Safe Routes to School program to provide students with important information on the safest ways to bike or roll to school - more to come. Please remember to drive safely when in or near the school parking lot.
Also a friendly reminder that dogs (big or small) are not permitted on campus during drop-off, pick-up, or during the school day. This is to ensure the safety and emotional well-being of our students and community. Thank you for your understanding.
Principal’s Coffee
Please join us for a principal’s coffee on Monday, March 28th @ 9am (link) to discuss the upcoming CAASPP assessments for grades 3-5. I will also share the plan for any COVID updates.
Science Night OR After-school Enrichment
The district’s revised protocols allow us to hold events on campus. We are currently planning a Science Night for Thursday, April 21st from 6-7pm. Students and families that attend will receive and build a Kiwi Kit together. Alternatively, if you are not able to attend or if you do not feel comfortable attending an in-person event, students can participate in after-school enrichment on April 21st or May 5th from 12:30-1:30pm. They would receive and build the same Kiwi Kit with their STEAM teachers, Ms. Poor and Ms. Son.
Please complete the survey by 3/28 and select either the Science Night for your family OR the After-school Enrichment for your child.
Thank you,
Pieter Dolmans
Spring Picture Day
Mark your calendars! Spring Picture Day is Friday, April 1, 2022. Order forms will be sent home with students this week.
School Name: Landels Elementary School
Picture Day Date: Friday, April 1
Picture Date ID: EVTZ8X6JH
Water Bottles
Please send your child to school with a water bottle daily. Because of our COVID precautions, we do not allow students to drink directly from our water fountains. They can refill their water bottles, but we do not have extras to hand out. Please write your child’s name on the bottle so it can be returned if misplaced.

For grades 5-7: Middle School electives selection coming soon
It is the time of year when our incoming middle school students choose their electives for next year. Our middle schools are currently working to finalize quality offerings that we hope will pique students’ interests and be a great complement to our core academics. Look for an email on March 25 with the course descriptions. All 5th-7th graders will preference their course electives online through Powerschool on March 28-April 8, 2022.
The Talk: The Culture of Success recording
Did you miss “The Talk: The Culture of Success – Our Beliefs About Success and Emotional Resilience” on Wednesday? A panel of parents and community members reflected on our foundational beliefs about the success and emotional resilience of our children. You can still watch it. Click here to watch a recording of the event.
Speaking respectfully about mask choices
As mask mandates change at MVWSD, it is important to respect the decisions of individuals and families as they choose to mask or not mask while outdoors at school (indoor masks are still required). Staff members will support students with respectful conversations on campus. We encourage you to talk with your children about your family’s choices, and about communicating empathy and understanding for others’ choices. For tips on how students can respectfully speak up and speak out, see this helpful infographic. We know our students will be upstanders and take care of each other!
