Landels News

Dear Landels Families,

As this year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to recognize some of our accomplishments in 2023:

  • Students made tremendous gains in both reading (proficiency up 15%) and math (proficiency up 17%)
  • We aligned our 3-5 small group block to maximize instructional time while still providing targeted reading and language support for ELs
  • With the help of the Landels PTA, we held multiple events (science night, walkathon, Diwali, holiday fair and United Against Hate Week) to bring our community together
  • We continue to build a more inclusive recess and lunch environment thanks to Playworks, our junior coaches and our recess supervisors
  • We’ve come together to support our community and local groups by organizing clothing and toy drives

Thank you to our teachers, staff, parents and students for making it happen! Looking forward to what 2024 will bring!

We will be closed for Holiday Recess from December 23rd to January 8th. Teachers will be spending January 8th participating in professional development and planning for the start of January. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school when we resume on January 9th!

Let the Landels Winter Reading Challenge begin!

The classroom with the highest participation rate wins a holiday party. Use the Challenge form that came home in your student's backpack (or print your own from the e-version attached) to help them keep track of each day they read over winter break!

Wishing all families a happy, healthy and safe winter break. See you in the New Year!

Pieter Dolmans

Short-Term Independent Studies

You can also find minimum days outside our regularly scheduled early release Thursdays for scheduling appointments for your scholar.  If your plans include your child missing 3-14 days of school, please notify the front office to discuss a short-term independent studies contract to minimize the impact of missed school days.

Holiday Fair

Thank you to the 300 or so of you and your families that came and shopped or participated as vendors at the Holiday Fair Tuesday evening. All of our vendors had such lovely items for sale and the tables looked beautiful. We were very impressed by all of you but especially by our students’ passion for entrepreneurship and Mr. Paul Hammer on piano!  Check out @LandelsPTA on Facebook for some pictures of the event last night.

Also, while the event is fresh in your mind, please provide some feedback so that we can continue to improve our event offerings by filling out our post-event survey here.
